Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced welder to join our manufacturing/fabrication shop team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in various welding techniques, metal fabrication, and the ability to read and interpret blueprints. This position requires a high level of precision, safety awareness, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team to produce high-quality fabricated metal components.
Position Requirements & Qualifications:
· General Responsibilities & Compliance:
o Complete assigned tasks efficiently and on time
o Open to occasional overtime and weekend work
o Be willing to learn and improve by becoming a journeyman welder through HHI Corporation’s welder apprenticeship program
· Safety Requirements:
o Comply with company and OSHA safety regulations
o Use and understand all required safety equipment
o Maintain safe work area and identify/correct hazards
o Safely use welding tools (e.g., grinders, torches, plasma cutters)
o Operate cranes and lifting equipment, including proper rigging use
· Physical Requirements:
o Lift up to 50 pounds
o Work in non-temperature-controlled environments
o Perform frequent bending, squatting, and climbing
o Stand for extended periods of time
o Pass drug and background screening
o Operate shop equipment for extended periods of time
o Work with arms above head
· Workplace Conduct & Soft Skills:
o Communicate professionally and courteously with others
o Follow directions and work well in a team
o Work independently in a safe and professional manner
o Support training and mentor other welders
o Willing to learn and improve welding skills and processes
· Technical Skills & Experience:
o 5+ years of welding experience
o Understand welding symbols
o Operate forklifts (training will be included)
o Routinely perform cleaning procedures and replace consumable parts specific to various machines
o Read and follow welding procedure specifications to meet quality and performance standards
o Effectively produce structural steel CJP, PJP, and fillet welds in all positions using the SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW-G welding processes
o AWS D1.1 structural steel qualification testing in all positions using the SMAW process
o AWS D1.1 structural steel qualification testing in all positions using the GMAW process in various types of transfer modes
o AWS D1.1 structural steel qualification testing in all positions using the FCAW-G process
o AWS D1.8 structural steel seismic supplemental welder qualification for restricted welding
o Set up and operate air carbon arc gouging equipment
o Set up and operate plasma cutting equipment
o Set up and operate mechanical and manual cutting devices
o Ability to use measuring tools and gauges to verify dimensions of weld joints in accordance with approved joint designs
o Inspect products to ensure quality and be able to identify and correct unacceptable areas
o Ability to read and use standard and metric measuring devices
o Read and interpret blueprints, including plan, isometric, and sectional views
o Take measurements and lay out workpieces from drawings
Preferred Qualifications:
· AWS Certification(s)
· Forklift operation experience
· Understanding of how to identify different types of metals
· Forklift/Boom Lift/Scissor Lift Certified
· AWS D1.1 structural steel qualification testing in all positions using the FCAW-S process
· AWS D1.2 structural aluminum qualification tests in 6G positions using the GTAW process
· AWS D1.2 structural aluminum qualification tests in all positions using the GMAW process
· AWS D1.3 structural sheet steel qualification tests in 1F positions using the GMAW process
· AWS D1.6 structural stainless steel qualification tests in all positions using the GMAW, FCAW-G, and GTAW processes
